Where in the world is....Grein?
This is a little countryside town in Austria called Grein as it was in 2008. Probably not the most well known place, but a picturesque hometown to one of my old friends who invited us for a family meal. The town had the usual but in this case, also its own castle. My friend's family is Romanian and we had a big group that day, so a lot of food, followed by a stroll through the town before heading back to Vienna. The highlight? Sarmale. A delicious dish of baked cabbage rolls, the recipe of which I haven't quite been able to replicate. For me therefore, Grein = my first taste of Sarmale!
